Alternating color segments are generally 300 ± 150 mm, with neither color exceeding two-thirds of the treatment. C2, C3, and C4 indicate minimum widths of 50, 75, and 100 mm; width alone does not establish optical grade.

Can ordinary red-and-white reflective tape replace DOT-C2 material?
No. Similar red-and-white colors do not establish FMVSS No. 108 conformity. General reflective tape may suit optional visibility marking or trailers outside the federal threshold, but a regulated application requires the certification marking, compliance statement, optical report, material width, segment dimensions, and traceability. The supplier should clearly identify whether the construction is compliance material or a general visibility product. Test a patch on the actual finish, then inspect at 24 and 72 hours for edge lift, bubbles, displacement, adhesive transfer, or coating failure.

Use Field Adhesion Checks for Application Screening
The site’s honeycomb reflective adhesive tape lists 0.32-0.36 mm typical thickness, 50 or 100 mm widths, 10-40°C application temperature, and -20 to 70°C service temperature. Its TDS reports 12 N/25 mm peel after 24 hours on cleaned painted steel and no more than 2 mm edge lift after 72 hours.
These are product-specific application data, not DOT-C2 optical certification. Review the application temperature and adhesion data and repeat the patch test on the actual finish. Field screening does not replace ASTM E810 photometry or compliance documents.
